Joel C. Seelye happily lives in Duncansville with his wife, two sons and dog. He grew up in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, and graduated summa cum laude from California University of Pennsylvania with his degree in Psychology. He then earned his law degree from Duquesne University School of Law and was admitted to practice by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 2006.
After receiving his license to practice law he recognized his strong desire to represent clients in the Courtroom and sought a job that would provide immediate litigation experience. He found this opportunity at the Blair County Public Defender’s Office representing indigent clients for approximately nine months. He then entered private practice at the Law Firm of Grabill & Grabill, P.L.L.C., where he would later become a partner, resulting in the firm changing its name to Grabill & Seelye, P.L.L.C.
Concentrating his practice in litigation, he regularly represents individuals in family law matters, adoptions, personal injury matters, civil litigation, criminal defense, social security disability, contract disputes and land disputes. Mr. Seelye is also one of the few attorneys in the area who represents both intended parents and gestational carriers with their legal needs in pursuing various surrogacy arrangements. His extensive experience in adoptions, custody and child support issues enables him to identify and address the legal issues present in the different surrogacy arrangements.
Mr. Seelye also represents many businesses in Central and Western Pennsylvania with their litigation needs. Whether representing a plaintiff or defendant, he understands litigation comes with inherent risk and appreciates the impact a case’s outcome has on his clients. He works towards efficient resolution of cases with a view to the bottom line, combining litigation and business strategies designed to meet your businesses needs.
When not practicing law, Joel loves to spend time with his family and compete in any sport that is not just running. He enjoys the outdoors, continues to try to learn the art of fly fishing, and hikes the Appalachian Trail. He also fancies himself a vintner making red wine each year from grapes he orders from California. He ages his wine in an oak barrel which is a favorite conversational piece for him in his home.
